What is it like dating as a gamer currently, and how does this differ from in the past?
How has the rise in popularity of Gamer girls changed the situation, their inevitable sexualisation, and the rise in visibility/fortunes of streamers.
This post aims to explore these very questions, whilst posing some new ones.
A Short History of Gaming
Games are as old as humankind, after you die games will be invented. What’s your dying somewhere in the world somebody will be playing a game, a board game, a video game, or maybe a charades type game.
We are focusing on video games here, since the 1950s with its commercial birth. Gaming is going to be one of the most profitable industries.
The early 1970s also saw the advent of personal computers and mass-produced gaming consoles become a reality. Technological advancements, such as Intel’s invention of the world’s first microprocessor, led to the creation of games such as Gunfight in 1975, the first example of a multiplayer human-to-human combat shooter.
It wasn’t until the release of the Sega Dreamcast, the world’s first Internet-ready console, in 2000, that real advances were made in online gaming as we know it
The mobile technology boom has only created more avenues for profitability throughout gaming industries, and geek dating app.
My experience gaming
As a child, I through a fair number of gaming consoles, Nintendo, Saga, PlayStation, and Xbox. Growing up as an urban child, some of my fondest memories were bonding over games with my cousins, friends, and siblings.
Take Need for Speed, my brother couldn’t get the hang of drifting so that’s when my expertise would be called upon.
So what is the world of dating like for gamers? First, you have to consider one thing. The stigma that used to be attached to gaming itself, and geek dating.

Gamers looked down upon
Sadly, there was a time where gaming was deeply looked down upon, and sometimes that old attitude is still prevalent today.
The internet has now provided evidence of a proliferation of attractive, versatile, diverse individuals or showing themselves playing and interacting with others. On a wide variety of streaming services.
But at one point, it used to be believed that only nerdy individuals gamed. As gaming has become more mainstream and popular, the taboo it was once associated with has been stripped away. To a lesser degree. Some online games, such as World of Warcraft still hold negative connotations outside of their circles.
There are still some conservative positions which push that gamers simply do not want to work.
This all feeds into the position gamers hold in the dating world right now. Dating for gamers has never been less ostracise, gaming is no longer looked down upon as though it is a weird thing to do. Is now recognised as a viable financial stream for some, therefore more people are intrigued by dating gamers. As time goes on, it is set to be less and less marginalised.
